Geometry and Topology

Geometric analysis (including geometric measure theory) and its applications, applied and computational algebraic topology (including topological data analysis), geometry of probability and data, especially in higher dimensions, use of variational/optimization techniques and computations in geometry and topology, applications of all these to real world, complex data and machine learning tasks, including problems from (often, large and/or expensive) physics experiments.

Examples of research projects past and present: sparse dynamic tomography, the development of image metrics which ignore unimportant differences, the sharp characterization of minimizers to variational functionals like the L1TV and ROF functionals, the flat norm for images and shapes, analysis and geometric measure theory in metric spaces, and the propagation of uncertainty through image analysis.
