Title: On Numbers... A Brief Exploration of the Surreal Numbers

Abstract: In this talk we will present a way to construct numbers using nothing but the empty set. This construction, due to Conway in 1976, gives rise to the so-called surreal numbers, which we will see is a totally ordered field containing not only the real numbers, but also numbers infinitely large and infinitesimally small!
