Minor in Mathematics or Statistics
Math Minor
A mathematics minor requires a minimum of 19 hours including MATH 171, 172, and one of 220 or 273. An additional 9 hours of 300-400-level mathematics credits must be taken in residence at WSU or through WSU-approved education abroad or educational exchange courses. Courses required for the minor may not be taken pass/fail and a minimum 2.0 GPA is required in all courses taken for the minor. MATH 303, 330, 351, 398, 425, and 431 do not count toward the minor.
Course Requirements:
- Per academic regulation 54, transfer credit does not count toward the required nine credits at the 300-400 level.
- Cross-listed courses do count, such as Math/Bio 340.
- One of Statistics 360, 370 or 412, and any of Statistics 423, 430, 443, and 456 do count.
- Only content courses count toward the minor. In particular, Math 330, 351, 398, 425, 431, and 497 do not count. Math 499 may count with prior approval.

Statistics Minor
A minor in statistics requires at least 18 semester hours of statistics (STAT) courses. At least 9 hours of upper-division work must be taken in residence at WSU. Courses required for the minor may not be taken pass/fail and a minimum 2.0 GPA is required in courses taken for the minor.

Course Requirements:
- Per academic regulation 54, transfer credit does not count toward the required nine credits at the 300-400 level.
- One of STAT 360 or STAT 370
- STAT 412, 423, or 430
- STAT 443
- Students majoring in mathematics under the Actuarial Science Option must take STAT 456 in order to receive the statistics minor.
- 9 additional hours selected from STAT 410, 419, 422 (University of Idaho), 428 (University of Idaho), 436, 446, 447 and 456.
Procedure to Certify for a Minor:
Once you have completed 60 semester hours, have certified in a major, and have:
- Completed the requirements from Group 1 and Group 2 (see the math minor checklist) you may certify for the minor in mathematics, or
- Completed STAT 360 or 370 (see the statistics minor checklist), you may certify for the minor in statistics.
If you would like to be certified for a minor, please send an email to math.stats@wsu.edu with your request. Please put "Math Minor" or “Stat Minor” in the subject and be sure to include your name, WSU ID number, and the courses you have already completed in the body of the email.
Deadlines:
To ensure you are awarded the minor, please certify as soon as possible. If you are in your last semester, you must certify by March 31 for spring graduation, June 30 for summer graduation, or October 31 for fall graduation.
