Mathematics Colloquium: Probability and Statistics in Number Theory
2018-02-23

Dr. Dominic Klyve
Elementary number theory - the study of the positive integers and the primes - seems to many students to be a world in which there is no ambiguity. After all, the number 7653 is either a prime or it is not; no chance is involved. Nevertheless, probabilistic and statistical thinking have permeated many parts of the study of number theory. This talk will examine several of these, with a focus on projects with which the speaker has worked on with his students.
Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome!
