28th Ostrom Lecture: What's Math Got To Do With It ?

2009-04-15

7:30 pm. TBA

Tony Chan

Abstract: To the general public, Math has been one of the most inscrutable among scientific disciplines. Not only is the language of Math difficult for a lay person to penetrate, it is also often not obvious why is relevant to everyday life. In fact, Math is both ubiquitous and central to many technologies that we rely on everyday. In this talk, intended for a general and non-mathematical audience, I'll give some examples to illustrate this unexpected role of Math from a personal perspective.
