The department currently teaches more credit hours than any other department within the university. The administrative and technical staff provide support to 71 faculty members, 172 undergraduate majors, and 80 graduate students, as well as the high volume of undergraduate students completing their required WSU math courses.

The department uses technology extensively in classroom instruction, as well as faculty research. Four computing labs are available to students and faculty which support both Linux and Windows operating systems that run mathematical software such as Maple, MatLab, SAS, Minitab, Splus, LaTeX and other computing packages. Students may access mathematical software at any time by using an interactive website maintained exclusively for math courses.
