POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Mathematics of Washington State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Discrete
Mathematics at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates must have, by August 16, 2008, a PhD. in mathematics or a related field.
This position will emphasize
quality research, effective teaching, and the ability to build on existing
strengths of the Mathematics Department or develop new areas.
Demonstrated understanding
of how affirmative action and increased diversity among students, faculty,
staff, and the curriculum strengthen the academic mission.
RANK/SALARY: This is a permanent, full-time (academic year), tenure-track position at
Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, Washington. Salary is
competitive and commensurate with training and experience.
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 16, 2008
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a vigorous research program
supported by extramural funding.
- Train graduate students.
- Teach undergraduate courses and graduate courses
in the department of mathematics.
- Participate in committee service at the
department, college and/or university level.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- An earned doctorate in mathematics or related
field by August 16, 2008.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated record of research or potential for
research in discrete mathematics.
- Ability to collaborate with present WSU faculty
in mathematics and computer science.
- Ability to utilize research in applied areas such
as cryptology.
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in combinatorics and graph theory.
