In a Venn Diagram, a group of things, or a class, S is represented by a circle.
Shading the interior of S means that class S contains nothing -- S is empty.
Putting an "x" in the interior of S means that S has something in it -- S is not empty.
The area outside, or exterior, of is all the non-members of S and is denoted by .
