The PhD in Mathematics requires the submission of a thesis containing
original contributions in a specialized area of mathematics. Almost all
departments on campus require the submission of either a thesis or a project
for awarding the MS degree. While it is encouraged that there exist a
relationship between the PhD thesis area and the MS thesis/project area, such a
relationship is not mandatory.
