Students wishing to pursue the PhD/MS option must file a Declaration of Intent
with the Graduate School within two years of their admission into the PhD
program in mathematics. They should also notify Chairs of Mathematics as well
as the MS degree granting unit of their intent to pursue the PhD/MS option and
must obtain written approval from Chairs of both departments. The Declaration

The idea is to design a curriculum that meets the requirement of satisfactory progress at all times in both the units. Ultimately, the curriculum meets all graduation requirements of the PhD in Mathematics as well as the MS degree. For requirements of the PhD in Mathematics, see §8. Where cross-listed courses exist between both departments, up to eleven credits may be shared by both PhD and MS programs.
