Some sample MAPLE commands:

To define a function, like f(x) = x^2/3 - 2x:
   f:=x->x^2/3-2*x;
To plot f on the window -1<x<1, -2<y<2:
  plot(f(x),x=-1..1,y=-2..2);
To try to solve an equation exactly for all solutions:
  solve(x^2=x,x);
To try to solve numerically (homing in) for one solution:
  fsolve(x^2=x,x=2);
  (the x=2 is an initial guess by you)
The function 'e to the x' is entered as exp(x)
The number pi (3.1415926...) is entered as Pi.
Always end a MAPLE command with colon or semicolon
  : does not send the output of that command to the screen
