People driving around in their cars occasionally need to come to a stop, sometimes suddendly. A person applies the brakes to stop and the car decelerates from some given speed to a stop. If the initial speed and deceleration are known, then one may determine the time it takes and distance needed to come to a complete stop. This lesson will show the graphical relationship between integration and differentiation by finding the stopping time and distance for a car with given speed and deceleration. This lesson will also show how to check an answer by analytically determining the answer to this problem. |
