Consider the logistic map tex2html_wrap_inline227. When you type this into the equation dialog box as x=mu*x*(1-x), you receive an iterated function display by default. You may leave this or delete it, as you choose. To the right of the default display, draw a new display rectangle. Choose the Stair-Step option when the dialog prompts you for the type of display. Enter x as the variable to be displayed, and accept the default display bounds of (0,1)x(0,1). In the parameter dialog box enter a value of 2.5 for mu. You should now be able to double-click the right mouse button in the stair-step display to get a stair-step diagram rather like that shown below. insert figure here The diagram shows the iterates converging to a fixed point of the map f.
