Math 220 -- Introduction to Linear Algebra

Course Description
This course will present a low level introduction to the basics of linear algebra and matrix theory. Topics covered include systems of linear equations, determinants and matrix inverses, rank, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors. Discussions will be limited to real numbers and real spaces. The computer package MATLAB will be used to implement and explore some of the ideas discussed in class as part of a computer project.

Tuesday, Sept 6: I'll not be available from 12:00-2:00 pm tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept 7).
You could stop by my office during 10:00-11:50 am, or after 2:00 pm.

Tuesday, Sept 20:
==> The exam room for this section (section 2) of Math 220 will be Todd 216.
==> The first and second midterms will be held on the dates given already
       (on Sept 27 and Nov 8) at 6:00-7:00 pm.
==> Problems of Homework 5 from section 1.7 alone are due on Tuesday, Sept 27 in class.
       Solutions will be posted on that day for this part of homework 5.
==> Check out the study guide for the first exam (link under Exams below).

Tuesday, Oct 25:
==> The computer assignment and a few links to MATLAB help have been posted.
The assignment is due on the Tuesday after the break (November 29).

Monday, Oct 31:
==> Study guide for Exam 2 has been posted (see below).
The second exam is on Tuesday, November 8 at Todd 216 @ 6:00 pm.
It will cover sections 1.8-2.9.

Sunday, Dec 4:
==> Study guide for the final exam has been posted. See link below.

Wednesday, Dec 7:NEW!!
==> Only section 6.1 from chapter 6 will be covered in the final exam.
Solutions to practice problems from 6.1 have been uploaded.

Sunday, Dec 11:NEW!!
==> The scores for the class have been
updated. The computer assignment is not graded yet though. The pre-final
score is hence out of 60 (20 for homework, and 20 each for two tests).
==> The final will be in Todd 216 (same room as exams 1 and 2),
on Monday, Dec 13, 1:00-3:00 pm.
