Mathematics Computer Laboratories

Greetings on behalf of the 2004-5 lab staff. The purpose of this document is to bring you up to date on lab policy, procedures and resources.
  1. Public access hours-- We have no public access hours any more. The reason is that all the software you need is on the web, at my.math. If you have doubts as to the way to get onto this, check with your instructor.
  2. Resources available-- There are several lab related resources available. Check with your instructor.
    1. Reference manuals - Maple and Matlab manuals are available to be checked out and used in the lab during lab hours. There are also a number of texts concerning other aspects of computing, including UNIX commands, CGI programming, Perl, Java, Javascript, and other topics. See the lab TA or computing personnel for information on these.
    2. Math 220 Remote Connections – Math 220 students may use ssh to connect to our site from their homes. They will not be able to create graphics, but they will be able to work with matrices.  They should ssh to the computer rome.math.wsu.edu.
  3. Details
    1. Student accounts-- All students of mathematics classes are eligible to have computer accounts in the department. See your TA for word of how to get the account. Accounts are all deleted at the end of each semester. Account use is subject to WSU guidelines on appropriate use, as well as applicable laws. Misuse of Math Department accounts will be prosecuted through the university administration.
    2. Final exam week-- The lab is not open final exam week, so please keep this in mind as you plan for the semester.
    3. Computer Down-- If a computer goes down, please notify computing staff immediately.
If you have any other questions, please contact the Help Desk (helpdesk@math.wsu.edu). Thanks and best wishes for a good semester.
