Applied Seminar: Nonlinear Stability Analysis of Rhombic Optical Pattern Formation in an Atomic Vapor Ring Cavity

Abstract: In this talk, I will present two of the problems in my preliminary examination, which I included in my doctoral dissertation, namely, a stability analysis of the amplitude equations associated with the modified Swift-Hohenberg equation describing the internal field in an atomic sodium vapor ring cavity, and a construction of countour plots of the solution of that equation showing the rhombic symmetry of the problem.
