Pedagogy Seminar: Workshop introducing the dynamic features of Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP)
4:10 p.m. until 5:30, Computer Lab in Neill 120
Sandy and I invite you to join the pedagogy seminar on Wednesday March 9th and 23rd. We will meet in the computer lab in Neill 120. March 9th we will have a workshop introducing the dynamic features of Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP) and on March 23rd use the iterations and animation features. The uses for GSP can extend into many areas: algebra, calculus and geometry. Graduate students will find it useful as well--Jen Breckon used GSP for the diagrams in her master’s thesis. I have used it to illustrate secant lines whose slopes converge to the slope of a tangent line, or for illustrating the limiting process used in Riemann Sums. The software makes very nice graphs that can be pasted into word docs so your tests will look great. We have an unlimited site license for GSP and it is currently loaded in Niell 3 and 120, Slick computer labs in Abelson and is supposed to be loaded on the computer labs in Cleveland. If you find it useful the math dept. can load it on your office computer if it has window’s operation system.
