Mathematics Seminar: "Introduction to the mathematical analysis of Irving-Kirkwood procedure"
4:10pm, Neill 5W
Dr. Alexander Panchenko
*Abstract* First, we provide some background on statistical mechanics of classical particle systems. The main goal of this science is to link continuum physics with molecular models. A method of doing this was proposed by Irving and Kirkwood in the 1950s. We focus on the space-time averaging version of the Irving-Kirkwood procedure due to Hardy and independently to Murdoch and Bedeaux. Some open questions will be discussed.
