Dr. Charles Moore
I will discuss the forward-backward heat equation, which finds applications in imaging processing and population dynamics. This is a differential equation involving a function that satisfies the heat equation in a certain range of values, and the backward heat equation for other values. Both the non-linearity and the ill-posedness of this equation make it difficult to analyze. I will give some background and a few paltry results about what is known.
