Applied Math Seminar: Modeling Chemical Diffusion in a Lead Acid Battery

ABSTRACT: Two basic models for chemical diffusion in a lead acid battery will be presented; one used by a battery optimization research group at U of I and the other recently presented by a Finnish engineer for UPS. The electro-chemical dynamics of a lead-acid battery will be summarized. Preliminary research will be presented on a simplification of the UPS model as an expansion of the UI model. The associated models and numerical solution methods will be compared.
